  1. DPT / OTD
Hey guys, so i finally got in PT school in NY after lots of hard work ( can i get a Woo, woo)... Anyway, I started out as a licensed PTA and have been working for the past 4 years in various PT settings such as pediatrics, orthopedics , home care. I have been basically doing it all. In my years as working, I knew i hit a plateau as a PTA year in , in terms of financially and growth. With a lot of hard work and determination , I received my bachelors and finally applied to PT school because I wanted to reach the highest point in my coveted field. However, now that i finally got accepted and the program starts in a few months, I have a feeling of nervousness. Im lead to believe that it's just "grad school jitters" , as a colleague of mine told me but Can anyone else provide some clarity or semblance ? Do others in PT school or pre-PT go through this nervous sensation of "will i be good enough"?

You'll probably have a leg up over most of your cohort--and heck, probably some of your professors. Though just smile and thank them for their corrections 🙂

Transitions are always rough, so expect that some adjustment will be needed. But you'll figure it out and find your own way.

Congratulations on fighting the good fight to get to where you are. If you don't deserve to be there, then who does?

Thank you for the motivation and kind words. much appreciated.

Yeah, if you have gone through PTA school and have worked 4 years as a PTA in multiple settings, I imagine you will definitely do well. You will probably have to shake off some rust in terms of studying, but you are going to be going in with a huge base of knowledge that I know that myself and most of my classmates did not have. I worked just half a year as a personal assistant for people with disabilities, and even that short amount of experience (which required really no clinical knowledge) actually helped me a lot with patient interactions, body mechanics, and comfort level with patients.

Also, congrats! I hope everything works out well and that you enjoy your program.

You'll be just fine. If you went through all that to get where you are you have what it takes. I started out as a PTA too. Never had a regular job since I traveled directly out of PTA school. I outgrew the PTA role within a year and took classes while I traveled to go back to PT school. Graduated two years ago and now have my own company with other therapists working for me. If your heart is in it, you'll be fine whatever comes your way.
