I am due to renew my PTCB certification this month, but was accepted into pharm school so I am now considered an intern at CVS... should I still renew my certification or can I let it lapse since Im no longer really considered a tech? if anyone has any info or a similar situation let me know! thanks

A PTCB is certification is as good as useless after you're accepted and don't plan on keeping a career as a tech. You are not required to be PTCB certified to work as a tech, so if you wish, you can stay working as a tech. You may lose your higher pay without certification, so if it is the money that matters, you may want to renew your PTCB. Otherwise, I'd say drop it.

Hey Danman..I was in the same situation as you. i needed to renew mines but then i got accepted to pharm school so I decided I didn't need to renew it. I don't know how it's like @ CVS but I work for Walgreens and all I needed to do was to give them a copy of my acceptance letter and I get paid what a P1 would get paid but I'm already a senior tech so I get paid the same as a p1 student.

On the topic of pharmacy tech certification...what book can you use to study for the exam? I am a high school senior and would like to take the exam and work as a pharmacy tech throughout the summer and through school until I earn a degree. I am not planning on taking any kind of pharmacy tech classes though. I would like to learn it by the book. Is this possible or are classes required?

Also, I am not sure if has any relevance to this, but I am planning on entering a 0-6 PharmD program. Would this have any effects on my pharmacy tech certification?

Thanks.

If you've taken any gchem or any class that deals with simple conversions, the test will be a piece of cake.

Use the search function, books have been discussed before. Taking classes is a waste of time in my book, but some people do recommend it. I do recommend at least getting a study book, because it will over prepare you for what will be a easy test ( a good thing btw).

Unless you actually got accepted to a pharm. school, then becoming a tech is a good idea, mainly because its good for pharm. school experience, and the pay is higher than what you normally would be doing out of high school, and even during college. I worked as a tech to pay my way through college.
