A Surgeon with whom I have been working will be submitting two papers soon to some good journals. He told me today that I should let the schools know about the "pending publications" but I have already submitted secondaries for 1/3 of my schools. I will be listed as somewhere between 3-5 author. Better than nothing.

The question is what should I do at this point?

Some schools have yet to send secondaries and others have me listed as complete. I didn't even mention these 2 papers on AMCAS because I thought it would take much longer for the papers to be ready for submission and really they haven't been submitted yet.

Advice from those who know would be greatly appreciated!

Most schools have some sort of "other information" section where you could put these. If you are worried about being screened out, you could email each school with an update. Also, I think placement (other than first) doesn't matter too much, a paper is a paper.

if you already submitted the secondary, just bring an update letter when you (hopefully) get an interview. i'd be wary about saying you have papers pending on a secondary unless you have more explicit details. you should at the very least be able to list the authors, the title, and where you submitted. if not, just wait til later and put it in an update letter, or just casually mention it in your secondaries.

I should have all of the details by the end of the week. Should I wait until the PI submits them? And should I wait until interviews to mention any of this?

if you find an appropriate place to put it in, cite it something like:

bamtuba, et al (under review) "title"

this is just my experience, i personally waited until interviews and just include them in an update letter. however i did interview some people who put that they were writing papers on their amcas, so i'd say if you can find a place to work it in go for it.
