I just graduated with my PsyD and am currently attempting to publish my dissertation to journals. Has anyone had success in doing this? How long do the journals usually take to process the submission and give you feedback? Any advice? I've already looked at a few journals that are related to my topic - interpersonal violence against women in the military and coping.

I don't see it as any different than publishing any other article. You'll just need to adapt it so it's properly edited for the journal's format. (So...lots of deletion and revising 👍)

At least some journals indicate how long the peer review process usually takes on their websites. I think it varies a lot. I'm guessing a monthly journal like "Violence Against Women" would have to have a faster turnaround time than one that is semi-annual. It might go faster if you have a heavy-hitter as your adviser and s/he is willing/able to pull strings.

I don't think any of my pubs have taken longer than 6 months, but if you get an "R & R" (revise and resubmit) that will of course take even more time. You can also get delayed a bit if one or more of the profs they send your work to is a procrastinator.

Good luck!
