Holy crap guys....I just took my 4 month-old English Mastiff puppy to get neutered and he weighed in at 68 lbs already! I don't think my St. Bernard was that big at that age! I guess I'll have to start my schedule of buying a 40lb bag of dog food every payday a little earlier than planned! I'm thankful for pet health insurance b/c I can't even imagine how fast the medical costs add up with the giant breed guys!

Reminds me of my first OES -- no Mastiff to be sure, but he was a big puppy and topped out at about 110 pounds. He had a habit of lying down to eat -- he would put a paw on each side of the bowl, lie down with this enormous groan and just stick his head in the bowl. With all the fur, you couldn't even see the food. You would just hear a crunching noise, he would eventually get up, and the bowl was empty! It was hilarious. With a big dog, I always worried about things like hip dysplasia, bloat, etc., but other than a brief bout of lyme disease, I never had a serious health issue with him and he passed away peacefully at 11. What a lovely representative of the breed he was -- a gentle giant and clownish almost right to the end. I miss him every day.
