This forum is the Pre-Dental Forum. It is intended to be used by guests who are interested in dentistry, who have applied to dental school, who are dental students, by those who have questions about applying to dental school and those who can volunteer good answers.

This is not meant to exclude people who are non-dental students or professionals. If their postings are helpful, they are welcome. However, if any postings are off-topic (e.g. do women go for medical students for their money), rude, deprecating, insulting, inflammatory toward other guests in this forum, conversationalistic or show an obvious ignorance of or indifference to the dental profession, those postings will be removed.

Take the time to judge for yourself whether your posting which you are about to place is adult, informative, cogent, and germane to the purpose of this forum. We're here to help one another make the journey from interest in dentistry through dental school application and on to acceptance. Let's make it happen here for every person who visits.

My e-mail address is listed at the top of this board. I welcome your comments.

I am writing concerning Turtleboard's removal. After reading that he has been removed as a moderator, I have to say I am greatly pleased by this action. I found his comments to be unprofessional, inappropriate, and unbecoming of a future doctor. I realize he is writing "all in good fun," but there is a more appropriate place to do this then a forum in which people go to for the purpose of sharing ideas and information. If one wanted to "joke and tease" others "all in good fun" about one's profession, this sort of behavior should be left among good friends and on personal time. I use the Student Doctor Network to gain valuable information and as a tool to enhance my understanding of my future profession--not as a place to conduct personal conversation or "fun attacks on others." SDN is a powerful tool in the information highway and if used appropriately, it can bring forth a collaborative effort and support among pre-professionals and professionals in the idea of advancing the understanding of the field of dentistry. With great enthusiasm, I look forward to the continued efforts of the dental community.

Pre-Dental Student

As a pre-dental student who will be entering dental school in the Fall, I use the pre-dental forum to learn from, and to share with others, what I have learned in regards to the application process, interviews, etc. I am appreciative to SDN for providing us with this invaluable service. Recently, however, I found that the atmosphere here had deteriorated into one that defeated the purposes of having this forum. I had made my objections known, in my posts and by letter, and am thankful that SDN took appropriate measures to maintain the integrity and professionalism of these forums.

I applaud SDN for acting in the best interest of the users of SDN...

Sincerely,
RP

Wow Mr. Scherf,

It's a good thing that other moderators don't take your stance on content of postings. Especially ".....or show an obvious ignorance of or indifference to the dental profession." If this were the case in the osteopathic and international sections, there would be several posts to remove (i.e.-should I go DO or Caribbean). There have even been a few clueless questions about "should I be a dentist or a real doctor?" I'm surprised you haven't got your hands on those. I mean, those show ignorance or indifference to dentistry.

Well, I gotta go. I have a toothache that needs attention. At least my dentist has a personality--and a sense of humor about him. Otherwise, I'd deal with pain. Thank you for not practicing in my neighborhood.

Another post for you to remove because you disagree with the content,
Boomer

I may have been the one who started the stuff about women going after doctors for their money. As a guy who has been around for fifty + years, I truly intended my remarks to be advisatory to single young men who are persuing a dental career.

No matter what one's occupation, I'm sure, if we are around long enough, we will eventually witness some poor sap who gets taken to the cleaners by a shark of a woman. This is not a gender issue either. Many of us are aware of the propensity for some women to get sucked into parasitic relationships with guys in prison.

Back to my original point. My motive for introducing this issue on this forum arose from an article that I read in a national news magazine a few years back. Ironically, I was in the waiting room of my dentist when I read the article. That article basically summarized a research study which had concluded that young single male dental students were unusually vulnerable to being targeted and victimized by female gold diggers. This economic victimization occurred once the students had graduated and begun their practices. I truly felt such information could be helpful to some of the young single male pre-dental/dental students who might visit this forum.

It is a waste of time explaining your comments to our moderator. As you can clearly see----it is what HE deems important, not what IS important. I certainly appreciate the wisdom you offer.

Starryknight,

First----I had to decipher your adolescent jargon with my teenage lexicon.

Second----Your inability to make a point without resorting to foul language, clearly shows your limited vocabulary and immaturity.

FINALLY----You currently have 5 posts as a member. In all 5 posts you are either personally attacking other members (e.g. MJF-- U of Mich. thread), complaining about other members, or being crass and using profanity.

HMMMMM.....You are TRULY a CLASS ACT and a wonderfully PRODUCTIVE member. I'm sure this site appreciates your input.

R.R.B.
