Putting down two deposits

I think I have narrowed it down to two schools (either UNECOM or VCOM-CC), however I'm still not sure which one I want to go to. I've done a lot of research and each school has its pros/cons for me.

I was thinking of putting down 2 deposits and then making a final decision after attending the accepted students day. Has anyone else done this? Thanks!

Not 100% sure on this but I think programs have the ability to see where you have put down deposits. They might have a certain date in which they ask you to pick a program in order to have some movement on their waitlist. Just something to keep in mind.

I don't expect a lot of new information, but I would be able to interact with more current students and future classmates. I think that would help contribute to whether the schools would be the right fit for me. At both schools, I only met 2-3 current students.

UNECOM has a $500 dollar deposit, then a $1500 deposit after 60 days that is refundable. So potentially I would only be losing $500 if I chose VCOM-CC, but more if I chose UNECOM.

A thousand is on the lower end for most schools... yes, still a lot of money.

VCOM-CC's is April 2nd. Not sure yet about UNECOM

Your classmates really shouldn't matter that much. At every medical school, there are students that you will click with and others that you won't. One day is not even enough time to figure that out. Also remember that you are going to medical school to become a doctor, not to hang out with people. There are plenty of more important deciding factors to choosing a school such as the match list, tuition, location, curriculum, facilities, etc. Pick the school that will open the most doors for you in the future.

Not to mention that a good chunk of those people you meet on the accepted student day may not even end up being your classmates as they may also take acceptances elsewhere and may not even be representative of your final class when orientation starts.

Plus, everyone is probably on interview behavior at an event like that. Not any better than the interview for seeing what things are really like.

Pick the cheapest school or the best 3rd/4th year training.

Take the $500 and go on vacation. Thank me once you're done with med school.

Do you think UNECOM is worth $7k more per year in just tuition? The only cons for me are that it is more expensive and way farther away (16 hours).

Personally yes, I would enjoy living on the east coast rather than SC. Location for me is huge. NE is so nice!

i am going to have to agree with everyone on this. Do not put down 2 deposits even if it is 500$.

As of right now, as many have already said, ask to speak to current students [more than 1 preferably] and narrow down your choices. Before even speaking to them i would write down a list of priorities in descending order for you, whether it is tuition, location, rotations, and night life for example and just see which one in the end got the most positive.

i believe people later regret not putting down security deposits for the "other" school [the one they eliminate] not because they liked that school more but because you like what you can't have =).
