I'm a 49 year healthy patient......But I'm one who does better with information. I have a history of anxiety. 6 years ago I had stress related benign PVC's. Went through blood tests, a treadmill and an echocardiogram....all found absolutly nothing wrong. After a month or two on Paxil(SSRI), the PVC's just disappeared. I had been off Paxil for years, but now my generalized anxiety is back, including like clockwork I might add......the frequent PVC's. So I'm on Paxil again. I had an excellent blood work up the other day and my recent EKG was fine, but I'm going to get another echocardiogram.
My questions: Are stress related, benign PVC's a problem for general anesthesia? I've had a lot of general anesthesia over my lifetime with absolutely no problems. I mean....moments when I'm more anxious, I can count 1 PVC every 10-20 seconds. When I focus my attention on various objects in a room while taking my pulse, I can get 1 PVC every 60 to 120 seconds. So, I'm pretty darn sure these are anxiety related and I suspect once I'm under, the PVC's may just drop off completely? Can that happen if it's stress related or do the PVC's continue under anesthesia?
Again, I'm healthy with no history of heart issues. I do some jogging and exercise every day with no chest pains or shortness of breath. I have tons of energy.....albeit some of it nervous energy. Do I have cause for concern undergoing anesthesia?
