when u open a private practice clinic, is that considered a "small business" for tax purposes? would u be a self employed small business owner? or is there a special bracket for this? hospitals are non profit orgs, so what about private practice clinics? also, i must guess it'll cost a lot to open your own clinic at first. do people get yet another loans for this???

also, when u get hired by hmo's, managed cared, etc, r u susceptible to mkt conditions and can u get fired just like other salarybased employees? what about academics? can u get fired if economy goes way down?

also do u learn about these logistics & etc in residencies?

Too many questions and too broad. The answer to your last question is that yes, you should be taught much of this in residency. The rest you will have to learn by doing.

maybe. depends on how good the residency is at teaching "practice management". Much of this will be learned from your contact with other colleagues. Some medical societies also sponsor talks specifically for residents ending their training to give them a heads up. pretty much like most of medicine, you'll learn once you start doing. it wasn't taught that well in my residency, I had to seek out my own knowledge.
