First thanks for your contribution to this tread, I know for me its been invaluable. I wanted to know something from your perspective. If a program offers a prematch to an applicant and the applicant does not accept. Does that change the ranking position of the applicant..ie are they more likely to be ranked lower or not ranked? Thanks once again.

I do not offer prematches, so it's hard to know. Personally, I'd look at it this way: 1) I wanted to prematch this person because they were good, 2) they decided to go through the match, 3) They're still good, 4) I'd still like to match them, 5) Therefore, I'd rank them on my list, wherever they deserved to be.

However, I could imagine PD's seeing your refusal of a prematch for what it is -- obviously, that program is not your first choice -- and thus decide to not rank you -- either out of spite, or out of an interest to fill "high on the list", or simply to avcoid having someone match there who might be unhappy / wasn't 100% committed to the program. I find this type of logic quite silly, as I'm happy to match someone as their #2 program.

So, official answer is: Who Knows?
