I'm interested into going into Peds. I've noticed that some programs list a "categorical" position as well as a "primary care/social pediatrics" track with a discrepancy in the number of residents they take in those tracks per year. Is it possible to apply to both tracks simultaneously; if not, would you apply to the track that takes more residents in order to have a better chance at matching at the institution?

Thanks!!

I only applied to one program with a setup like you describe (UCSF) and as far as I can remember, you could apply to both tracks simultaneously.

I think Harvard (BCH) has a similar system as well. They say you can and perhaps are even encouraged to apply to both tracks. Dunno if anyone will ever interview you for both...

This is a great question... unfortunately I think things are still changing as programs are adding these additional tracks so you'll have to read or ask about it prior to or during your interview, respectively.

For the BCRP program, you are encouraged to apply to and rank both tracks. You will have two interviews since it is a combined program (one at Children's Hospital Boston and the other at Boston Medical Center).

at Children's National, in DC, they also recommended applying to/ranking any and all tracks you were interested in being a part of.

Re: applying to both of the Children's/BCRP tracks... if they do want to meet with you, does anyone know if the interviews would be on 2 separate days? The whole traveling to interviews is giving me a good deal of stress - what with the airlines doing everything possible to make expedient/efficient travel a thing of the past!
