I can't seem to break above the 50-55% range in Qbank. Anyone had any experiences with this range and step one scores? 😕

What percent have your completed so far?

about 40%. My avg keeps slowly climbing but I've got 2 weeks before the big test so I'm curious if others where in this range when they took it. All the threads I have read show people above 70%(which I doubt). My friend just took the step and got a 251 and never broke 69% on qbank.

from what i gather your averages will go up.....practice, practice practice.

my dean of students said that you should try to have between 60-65% on qbank;

from SDN, it seems that 70% or better places you in a better range possibility;

my advice (i feel your pain because i'm taking it in june) would be to keep studying hard and make sure to do lots of questions. I personally started the qbank with a 60-65% as of last sunday; i'm taking another random 150 this week, so i'll let you know if i go up or not...

Of the 3rd years i talked to the one thing that they kept emphasizing was doing questions (esp qbank). after you're more comfortable with the question style, staring at a screen, etc, you should see your averages rise.

hope this helps.

As for the 60-65% recommendation given by your dean, is that the number you should intially get on qbank, or your overall on all of the questions?

if i'm not mistaken; he has said that by the end of studying, you should be trying to average at least 60-65% (per set of 50 or in a set 150). From peoples' experience on here, it seems that by getting to 70-75% you are in a solid score range (anywhere from 230 and up). Of course, you have to take everything with a grain of salt...

it's my understanding that the best representation of what your step 1 score would be is by taking the NBME self assessment exams that you can purchase online. Seems as though they are the best approximation of what your score will be end at that particular point in time. i have heard this over and over...

hope this helps both of us..

Also keep in mind that different people approach the questions differently. The person who gets 70% on qbank and scores a 250 is probably doing random blocks covering all topics while the person who gets 70% on qbank and scores a 210 is probably doing question blocks on the topics that he/she just reviewed.
In comparing the basic science shelf exams to the qbank questions, it seems that qbank is much more focused on the little details than the shelf exam, so I doubt there is a really strong correlation between qbank and step1 scores. Like someone else said above, the best predictor is probably going to be the NBME practice questions.

Good luck to us all!

i agree... when i do questions after i just studied something i'm usually in the 70-80's, but when i take the random stuff i'm around 55%. i just finished my first week of studying (basics and physio), and i have three weeks left. from what i hear, it's pretty much practice, practice, practice... no percentage correlates exactly to what you're going to get on the real thing, so just keep studying, do all the questions, and you should be fine.

good luck!

Man, I have about 15% complete, and am hovering at 62%. I was hoping to do better. Oh well, I do have four weeks left. If only I can keep my sanity for that time.

Getting frustrated here. Ive been doing more random questions in blocks of 50. I am about 40% done, and have got a 64%. I guess what makes me nervous is comparing my scores to the others reported by many on here (many have in the low to mid 70's, even some around 80). I have three weeks, and am starting to burn out with studying, so Ive been doing lots of questions. I know there is no real correlation between Qbank and the actual score, but its disheartening to be doing much poorer that I would have liked.

I do plan on doing both of the NBME exams, one of them maybe two weeks before, and the other one a few days before the real exam. Does that seem like a good timeframe?

Our school told us that 58-60% has a "high likelihood" of passing Step 1. Evidently there was some study that looked for a correlation (I've never seen this study, but this is what we were told) and that was it.

However, correlations with, say 80% on Q-bank does not necessarily correlate with, say, a 260 on the real thing. Just like some people who averaged 60% on QBank might get a 260, or a 200. I think this is due to testing anxiety and stuff---some people freeze up during the real thing, and others focus way better during the actual test than when doing what they know are practice questions. Although, generally speaking the higher you average on Q-bank, the higher you will likely get on Step 1.

Hows everyones Qbank going? It seems to me that I do better when I do random sets of 50 timed, rahter just doing random 50 at my own pace, go figure?

I got 68 qbank and 245 on the test, only good correlation is with the NBME assessments

Yeah, I want to see what I can do on those NBME exams, but I dont want to take them out of principle. How can they charge 45 dollars a piece when they already screw us over for 400+ on the real thing? They can because students will pay for them and they pay because they are supposedly good. Ill probably end up taking them becuase I have the money, but it just irks me to give them any more money.

I am planning on doing the nbme form B day after tomorrow....let me know how yours goes.

Ok, so I took form A today. I am quite happy. I got a 610 which is projected to a 242. I still have two weeks to study too. The funny thing was, that on the NBME exam, my best area was histo/cell bio, which was my worst area on Qbank by far. I dont really know how to interpret that. I just hope the questions are similar becuase I thought they were extremely fair for the most part.

Way to go! What have you been getting on your recent random qbank tests?

Well, at first I was getting sort of worried becuase when I started Qbank two weeks ago, I was getting around 60-65% doing random sets of 50. But as I started to focused my studies and do 150 questions/day, I was getting around 80-85% on random sets. Ended up with 75% overall. I still have some weak areas that I need to work on (Molecular and cell were both below 50 overall), but this was defintely a confidence boost, but will try not to let it go to my head since there is still a lot more to improve on.

since there are so few cell/molec questions, won't you run out and that will improve your score?
it happened to me and phys...my random score went up when i no longer had "undone" phys to be thrown in there. will that happen with cell too?
