QR for Kaplan Online Midterm - ::shudder::

Hey guys, I just took the practice DAT online through kaplan's syllabus and it seemed to me that bio, o chem and perhaps (*hopefully*) gchem may actually be doable for me...however...the QR destroyed me...i mean i know im not outstanding at math but its not like i cant do it - the QR on this test was crazy to me and now it just seems nearly impossible to complete each problem in around 30 seconds.

I was wondering if A.) Did anyone else feel the same way about the QR at least on this online midterm? and B.) Is the QR on this practice test similar to the one's that will be given on test day?

If anyones got any tips/tricks/hints/books/brains to give me I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

okay.. i havent taken the specific tests you are talking about... but a problem in 30 seconds? the dat qr is 40 questions and you get 45 minutes... so you get over a minute a question.

ohh right a minute sorry...was it still supposed to be fairly doable? the sad part is i actually reviewed the whole kaplan book on QR before goin into it which i thought i was doin pretty decent in as per the sample problems throughout the text...when i got to it on the online version i was kinda blown away...i'll keep practicing hopefully i get an okay score... 🙁

The QR on the Kaplen midterm is a killer. I tried retaking it last night too and didn't get through it. I haven't taken the real DAT yet, but I know the QR section on rest of the practice tests isn't as bad.

I was at Barnes & Nobles and i quickly glanced over a Barrons DAT practice test QR and it didnt seem as crazy as the Kaplan midterm...

Does anyone else think the online midterm was a bit much and/or know that the actual thing is similar or not?

I took the Kaplan course last summer. I also thought the midterm was QR was harder than the other kaplan tests I took (i dont if it's the same). Personally I did 3 or 4 pts higher on the real thing. Of course, after the midterm, I studied the QR more than I had been. I thought the key to the real thing was learning to do quick algebra.

wow 3 or 4 points?? dang i'd do back flips if mine would go up like that...i just bought two GRE books - a princeton review and a gre/gmat review from some company called arco (hopefully its good i'll let you guys know)...im kinda freakin out about the QR as you may have guessed heh...jorUW what books exactly did you use and how did you study?

i forgot who it was but, there was one poster who had a 16 on their QR and had 20 something's in the sciences and a 19 in RC and got a AA of 21...hopefully i can at least get that...take it easy guys thanks for posting 😳

if anyone has any tips on how to do solve these beasts in around a minute (especially word problems and probabilities) id love to hear from you thanks 🙂

Regarding the real DAT, the math section consists of lots of word problems, so study up those. Especially rates and conversions. The trig rules and applications showed up quite heavily. All and all I thought I did pretty well untill I got my score. Not exactly what I wanted but oh well. I personally used the GRE math work book to study. It has tons of practice problems and tests which I think was really usefull. Just my 2cents worth.

hey thanks for the advice...i noticed you have similar scores to what i described - i hope to follow in your footsteps 🙂 ...good job w/ ur score! Who made the GRE book you used and what was the title (Kaplan, Princeton, etc...) ? I was trying kaplan's subject test 1 for QR and it was primarily all word problems and i def. didnt finish in time...that was not good...gotta practice more...Thanks a lot for your feedback i really appreciate it.

Guys, don't worry about the Kaplan QR test or homework problems as Kaplan intentionally makes their tests harder than the real DAT in order for your real DAT score to be higher than what you got on your Kaplan practice test. Why?

Here's my observation. I think Kaplan don't want to give students their money back, and Kaplan does have a money back guarantee policy. So that if students perform worse on the real DAT can get their money back.

Don't worry about your QR score on the Kaplan practice tests, the midterm or the final test.

Here's my short summarized story of Kaplan's practice test. On the diagnostic test, I got a 19 for the QR. On the midterm, an 18. Final, somewhere between a 17-19.

But when I took the real DAT two days ago, I was shocked to see what kind of problems they were hurling at me! The problems were so do-able I thought I was taking the SAT and SAT II math for college! 😱

I did a lot of Kaplan practice QR tests and I don't thnik I finished one in the time allotted. It seems as though they give you problems that either take longer or some of their tests are all word problems. I haven't taken the real DAT yet but I did score 22 on QR test 1 of DAT Acheiver and 24 on QR test 1 of TopScore. I was freaking out at first too. Just practice & be confident, you'll be fine. 👍

thaaanks...im glad im not alone with the freakin out heh...one of my friends gave me his 2003 practice DAT from ADA and i was doing the QR and it didnt seem too bad at all...i mean i still need practice but it wasnt anywhere near as scary as the kaplan one...hopefully its more or less accurate to the real thing....thanks for replying! good luck w/ studying

I've noticed a lot of people mentioning the Real DAT is heavy on the Trig. There are 2 kinds of trig problems, sin, cos, tan, etc. and the odds and combination problems. I've fine with the latter, are there any hints for working with sin, cos, tan etc.? I'm totally confused by them.
