1. Find the average of the following list of three weights: 3 lb. 2oz., 4 lb. 6 oz., and 9 lb. 10 oz.

2. A painting which is 4 feet wide and 5 feet long is surrounded by a rectangular frame 6-inches wide. What percent of the area of the picture and the frame is occupied by the frame?

Thx~

1. convert everything into ounces.

1 lb = 16 ounces.

total would be 274 ounces.

average would be 91 1/3 ounces or 5 pounds and 11 1/3 ounce

2. area of the picture is 20 sq ft.

area of the frame itself. 10 sq ft.

2 * (0.5ft * 5ft) + 2 * (0.5ft * 4ft) + 4 (0.5ft * 0.5ft)

the last one are the corners.

10 + 20 = 30 sq ft.

10/30 * 100 = 33 1/3 %

Convert it all into ounces (16 ounces in a pound) and divided by 3
50 + 70 + 154 = 274/3 = 274/3 = 91.33 ounces or 274/(3*16) pounds = 137/24 pounds

1. Find the average of the following list of three weights: 3 lb. 2oz., 4 lb. 6 oz., and 9 lb. 10 oz.

Area of the painting = 4*5 = 20 feet squared
Area of the frame + painting: add 6 inches or 0.5 feet to all 4 sides
Width = 4+0.5+0.5 = 5 feet
Length = 5+0.5+0.5 = 6 feet
Area = 6*5 = 30 feet squared
Area occupied by frame alone = 30 - 20 = 10

Percent = 10/30 = 33%

Hope this helps, correct me if I'm wrong
