The scores on a certain exam were 60, 70. 75, 100, and x. If the median score was 5 points lower than the average score on the exam, which of the following could be x?

A. 75
B. 80
C. 85
D. 90
E. 95

Answer is E.

I don't understand the explanation given, can someone walk me through this?
Thanks for the help😀.

well first off you have to know what the median is, and after that it's quite easy. The median is the middle number which would be 75. Now it says the median is 5 points less than the average, meaning the average is 80. Your set up should look like this:
(60 + 70 + 75 + 100 + x)/ 5 = 80
Mult. both sides by 5 gives you --> 305 + x = 400, then x=95

ohhhhh
I was assuming we couldn't determine the median because we have an unknown "x" which could fall in the middle of this scale (I arranged them in ascending order, the problem didn't).
yea, this is really easy then, thanks!

You can't assume X will be any value other than between 0-100. The only way to solve this problem is by looking at the answer choices.
