Q. Under normal conditions, a pipe can fill a tank with water in 6 Hours. A leak develop in the tank when the tank is half filled. This leaks drains out 1/3 of the water the pipes fills. How long will it take for the pipe to fill after the leak develops?
correct answer is 4.5 hour
This is what I did
a leak develop when the tank is half filled, so work done is 1/2, so remaining work = 1/2
Due to the leak, we lost 1/3 of our 1/2 work so we lost 1/6 of work, so 1/6 work should be done,
so total work should be done = 1/2 +1/6 = 2/3
By using ration,
1 unit of work: 6 hour = 2/3 unit of work : x hour
x = 4 hour
Could you be able to correct me if I am wrong since the correct answer is 4.5 hour
