Does someone know off the top of their head which trig functions are positive/negative in which quadrants. I know cos is positive in the 4th quadrant, but that's only bc I just missed that on my first topscore QR. Anyone? I don't own an algebra/trig book. Haven't taken it since high school.... Thanks. 🙂 Oh and by the way, just made a 19 on the first topscore QR, which makes me very angry. I've reviewed up to number 7 and have already found 3 STUPID mistakes. 👎 Is the real DAT along the same line of difficulty of these QRs. I'm thinking...yes. 😉

Q1: sin +, cos +
Q2: sin +, cos -
Q3: sin -, cos -
Q4: sin -, cos +

i found the QR on the DAT to be VERY SIMPLE and i didn't even study for it. a lot of algebra and being able to solve for variables, percentages, etc. lots of SAT type problems. i still have no clue how i scored a 19...though i did MUCH BETTER! 🙄

good luck,
jb!

first quadrant, all the functions are positive, in the second quadrant, only the sine is positive, in the third, only the tangent is positive, and in the fourth quadrant, only the cosine is positive.

CAST Rule, tells you which function is positive in each quadrant. And the c, a, s and t stand for cosine, all, sine and tangent.

Thank you both. Jack, how were you doing on your QR practice tests? I'm supposed to be good at math 🙄 , and was hoping for at least a 20.

i didn't do any practice tests for QR. I just went into the test and winged it...the only studying i did was during my 15 min break. don't sweat it, if you're good w/ numbers you will be fine. i felt as if i was getting all the problems right...i was running out of time towards the end so maybe i got a little sloppy.

gl,
jb!

in high school trig a trick was

All (1 all positive)
Students (2 sin positive)
Take (3 tan positive)
Calculus (4 cos positive)

My dad's a math teacher and he said just remember CAST, from 4th to third it goes. it means- 4 cos +, 1 all +, 2 sin+ and 4 tan+

Know your quadrants! I didnt study for the math section and I had one quadrant question. The question was x + y =4, what quadrant would the slope be in. Hope this helps.

Can also do: All Students Take Calculus (ASTC).

I: All are positive.
II: Only Sin is positive.
III: Only Tan is positive.
IV: Only Cos is positive.
