Last week, we had our room assignments for a couple classes changed because all of the third years spent at least all morning, maybe longer, taking a qualifying exam. I meant to ask them about it, but never did. Any one know exactly what the qualifying exam is? I didn't see anything about it on here.

What school are you at?

The main qualifiying exam for North American students is the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam that is offered in november/december and again in the spring. This exam is taken at a testing center not at your school.

The only thing I can think of is that CSU has some sort of mini NAVLE that people take I think in third year to help prepare them for boards.

CSU's "mini NAVLE" is a cumulative exam taken every year on that previous year's material...the third years will have it in may, before finals and starting 4th year rotations 🙂

If you're at ISU (I think you are?) -- from what I understand the QE helps the administration evaluate the curriculum (VM1-3) and gives students some idea of their knowledge base. It's administered by the NVBME, the same people as the NAVLE.

I am at Iowa State. I asked some friends and they said it was mainly to judge how well the material had been taught and to give them a glimpse of what boards will be, but their individual scores don't impact them.

check out your school's website. Maybe they have posted an announcement in there.
