Qualifying for in-state tuition in California

Hello,

I am wondering if, after the first year of professional school at UCSD, you can qualify for their in state tuition rates.

Thanks,
William

I doubt it.

You see, we're very finnicky here in California about people like you coming to our state for our bad-ass education and then peacing out to wherever the hell you came from.

UCSD states this:

"PHYSICAL PRESENCE WITHIN THE STATE SOLELY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES DOES NOT CONSTITUTE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CALIFORNIA RESIDENCE FOR TUITION PURPOSES REGARDLESS OF THE LENGTH OF STAY IN CALIFORNIA."

So, while you will satisfy this clause:

"Students seeking to be classified residents for tuition purposes upon admission must be able to provide evidence of having established residence in California for more than one year immediately preceding the residence determination date of the term for which such classification is sought,"

by your 1-year "stay" during P1, you will not satisfy the really big caps-lock portion. Essentially, you're going to have to prove to UCSD that you're not just in CA for the education and that you're not simply going to cut and run when you graduate w/ your Pharm.D.

Of course, you should definitely e-mail their admissions folk and double-check, but from their admissions website, they are pretty damn clear.

Hope that helps.
