Besides general qualities every employer looks for, such as leadership, interpersonal/communication skills, good work ethic, good grades, etc., what are some really unique qualities anesthesia programs are very impressed by? What about musical/art talents (manual dexterity), aggressive/take charge (military style) vs. calm and collected under pressure, spontaneous/adventurous vs methodical, avid readers vs. videogamers, early birds vs night owls, corny or dry sense of humor, personal struggles' resolution, team player attitude, sensitivity to patients and/or surgeons egos? What else?

I'm trying to think of a handful of qualities I want to absolutely highlight in my application - personal statement, resume, recommendations, and finally interview as well.

This is a silly question.

How about what they don't want: dim-witted risk-taking maverick as-sholes who can't get along with anyone.

They are looking for people who are trainable, can see the big picture, will show up on time, be interested, work hard, and don't complain. You have these qualities, you will do well in this field.

Having generalized anxiety disorder is a key requirement for a successful match.
