i am at undergrad at a college that uses the quarter system. my school offers one general microbiology course, and then you can take specialized ones after. the one course is not worth enough credits to satisfy the pre req, same with genetics. Cornell told me the specialized courses do not count, that the quarter system can not cover the subject to their satisfaction in one quarter. what do i do? am i just screwed now for cornell and western and tufts?

Some suggestions....

1) Get (politely) aggressive about your adviser. Give them a week to respond to email, then call. Give them a day or two to return that. If you still haven't gotten anything, go up the chain to that person's boss. You're paying a lot for your education; don't let the school fail to provide good service. And if your adviser hasn't helped someone through this situation, ask for one who has. Let someone less savvy be their guinea pig.

2) Was Cornell (and others) clear that both classes together would not cover the requirement, or just that the single course wouldn't do it?

3) No matter what, you're not screwed.... you may just need to duck out and take that class someplace else, like a local CC. It's not the end of the world!

G'luck!

I agree, you might have to take it at another school, but it's not the end of the world! Before you do that, though, I would call Cornell and ask them what they recommend that you do. Ask if the two in combination would cover it or if they want you to take it at another school. If you choose a CC, I would also verify that the course will meet the requirement for them.
