Im an IMG graduated from a Univ which used the Problem based Learning approach . Part of our yearly academic requirements was to do a specialized study module could be an elective, research or lab work. In my 3nd year for a month I participated in a Research which used the method of interviewing patients and first degree family members using standardized questionnaires. As a member of the research I was given a role of questioning patients and their family members and scoring them. The article was latter published but our names(all the medical students who participated ) were not mentioned.
My question is can I add this in my application in eras? The only proof I have that I participated in this research is a 2 liner in my school ‘s official transcript . Personally, I joined the research because I was intrigued by the topic, it was a psychiatric disease and I was interested to know about its social impact. Though I aspire to match into IM or FM.
NB. The article was published found it in PUBMED though it was ascribed to a different institution but the authors were academicians I worked with in my Univ.
Secondly, I did a year of internship in my home country in SubSahara Africa after graduating from my med school(Did 5yrs of medicine +1yr of Internship). I opted to do that so I can share my knowledge and also could have a developing country medical experience. I also received a monthly salary, training and licensure in my home country.
My question is an internship considered work experience or training ?
Thank you for your time.

Sade,
Those are great questions. It sounds like you will have a good spot at an IM or fp residency spot, as long as you pass all of your USMLE's, etc.
Your internship in Africa sounds fascinating. You could list it as either work experience or training. I think I'd lean toward putting it under "training" because that's where we would probably list a previous internship or residency (like when I applied to medicine fellowship I think I had to list my prior internship and residency training). I think the important thing is to write a couple of sentences somewhere in the application about what you did (i.e. "Worked for 1 year as a rotating intern delivering patient care in a hospital(s) and clinic(s) in Africa following my medical school graduation. My duties included x, y, z" ).

Your research project sounds interesting. You should DEFINITELY include it somewhere in your ERAS application. You just want to make sure you aren't representing yourself as an author. Just state what the paper was about and what you did (administering the surveys, etc.). Even though you were not an author, it will still help your application because it shows you are interested in research. I think even from your description of the paper on this post (above) I know something about your research. You just want to write a paragraph or so in your application about the research, and state it was later published by faculty at your medical school.

Good luck!
