Hello, I am a first year freshmen college student with double majors Psychology, and Biology. I want to become a clinical psychologist, and hope to graduate from my university with a BA in Psychology, and BS in Biology.

What I am wondering is, how do you apply to gradute school clinical psychology programs? What's the requirements? What's the pre-reqs? What do they generally look for in an applicant? What's the average GPA? Where can I find a list of clinical psychology programs(both PsyD, and PhD)? Basically how many years does it take to do a program, and when should I apply? Is their any kind of test you have to take to get into one of these schools? Kind of like the MCAT for medical schools, or do I only have to take the GRE(What's this mean?)? Also, is their any kind of website that maybe has all this information, and more? I know the medical forums here have alot of info, but this one not so much on this stuff. Also, is their any kind of book, or something that has all the clinical psychology programs in it, and their requirements, and average gpa, pre-reqs etc.. like the MSAR I believe it is for medical schools.

I know I have asked alot of questions but how else can I find them out(Other than searching the forum here in clinical psychology, because I need updated info.)?

Take an afternoon and go to Barnes & Noble (or similar book store) and browse their grad section. They usually have large books that list all of the clinical programs, including statistics, scores, etc. Find the one that lays out the information the best for you, and then bring it home and sort through the programs. I'm sure there are threads on here that hit a lot of the other questions.

to be honest all this information can be found on the internet. i know there is a list of the top clin psych grad programs...just search 'usnews clinical psychology graduate programs'...or something to that effect. there really isnt anything you cant find on the internet. jus google till your hearts content!

Google can really find anything for you.....but it depends on how much time you are willing to devote. I did both methods when I was looking, but the book was well worth the $25-$30 as a basis to start from. I'd also do word searches on this forum for some good information.

The American Psychological Association (http://www.apa.org/students/) and its graduate student division (APAGS; http://www.apa.org/apags/) has published many resources on the profession, graduate training, etc.

If you are serious about pursuing clinical psychology training, you can join APAGS as an undergraduate which will provide you access to members only sections and discounts on their many books and journals.

Thanks for your replys! I am definitely serious about pursuing clinical psychology. I believe I will try to make a good informant post with abunch of my questions answered. I guess I was just being lazy rather than searching for my answers myself. I will post it here when I am done, and maybe it will be good enough to become a sticky..

Thanks again!
