I intend to apply to DO schools this year but I have a question about AACOMAS: if I don't plan to take the MCAT until August, do I still fill out the AACOMAS primary as soon as it opens?

Just to get your application verified as soon as possible, submit your primary to a throw away school.

Fill out as much as you possibly can as soon as it opens. I don't quite remember if you can submit the primary without an MCAT score, but if you can, I would concur with the above poster's sentiment in bold.

The point being, you want to get verified so that you can submit your apps asap after receiving your MCAT score.

You may submit the primary without an MCAT score. The application has a place for you to place the date of your upcoming MCAT test.

Then I would again concur with your first post as a good plan for OP.

I have the following GPAs: 3.37c, 3.17s. I have the following ECs- three years organic chemistry research, chairperson of tutoring organization, shadowing across 2 specialties, one summer research presentation/program and hospice volunteering.

Assuming I get a decent MCAT (501-509), what schools should I consider?

It depends. There's a fairly noticeable difference between a 501 and a 509.

That 3.17 science is low.

If possible, try to take an easy science class over the summer to get to at least a 3.2 because a 3.2 would get you past most of the higher screens except for KCU which is at 3.25

I would apply very very broadly (20+) just to be safe. If you have the finances apply to all the DO schools like a few of my friends did.

As an example, last summer I applied to 20 schools and I got 2 interviews. You never know which ones are going to like you and which ones aren't.
