Hi everyone. I am in a bit of difficult situation. I have been accepted to two vet schools (one being my in-state) and am in the process of deciding between the two. My fiance has a potential job offer in the out-of-state that is a great opportunity for him. The problem is that he will not find out until May if he got the job. I was wondering if I am allowed to accept both schools and make my final decision in May when I am better able to decide between the two. I really don't want to put myself into an unethical situation, if it is such a scenario. My worst fear is that by accepting both, I will get in some kind of trouble and be thrown out of both. I'm not sure about the policies concerning accepting a school. I have read all the materials I've received from both schools and so far it seems that I would just be losing my deposit for one of the schools. I would appreciate anyone's advice or knowledge of the topic.

I think I've heard of people doing this in the past, and there weren't any repercussions. I don't think the schools communicate amongst themselves about accepted students or anything. But hopefully someone else has first-hand or better experience to answer your question!

Giving the school a deposit just holds your place in the upcoming class. Many people are not positive by April 15th of where they wish to go because of family concerns like yours. It is all well and good to set an arbitrary date, but other things that are important to you will not necessarily be clear by that date. There is a reason that places open up in vet school classes a month or a week before classes start, and it is not because all those admitted people suddenly dropped dead. They were just covering themselves while other elements of their lives fell into place. There's nothing unethical about it and no one will punish you for it (other than the loss of the deposit).

This should be fine to do, just make sure that you make your decision ASAP and let whatever school you're not attending know so that they can give that seat to someone else.

As long as you are aware that you will most likely lose your deposit at the school you elect not to attend, you should be fine. As others have said, just let them know as soon as you know so that they can offer the open position to someone else.

Thanks for all the responses. I don't know why I was so freaked out that by accepting two schools I could forfeit my spot at both.
