Question about adcoms

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not 100% sure but I'd wager that it depends on the structure of the programs, and in most cases I would guess no.

For example, my undergrad offers masters programs through a "Department of Biomedical Sciences", which is under the umbrella of the College of Medicine, but is it's own autonomous entity.

The adcoms that post here like to maintain some confidentiality so that they are able to give advice and way in on people's situations without compromising their positions.

Is there a chance they'll pull my undergrad or grad apps to that school?
I go to USF but applied to USC for undergrad and their SMP. When I apply with AMCAS to their med school do you think they'll compare the essay/apps etc?

We and other schools often recommend our SMP to unsuccessful applicants to the med school.

I strongly recommend getting MCAT out of the way so that you can concentrate on the SMP.

When reviewing applicants for the SMP, we do see their UG transcripts, and any PB work. We do not see AMCAS apps, since we're a DO school. We do see AACOMAS apps.

But when AACOMAS gets to you and the rest of the Adcoms - do they check to see if an applicant has applied your SMP previously ?

@HopelessGal I suspect what you are asking is what schools give particular preference to students from their own SMP program. Is that correct?

No medical school is ever going to admit that, whether it is true or not. There are some schools that guarantee interviews the the top x% of their SMP program (Tufts does this), but no school is going to openly admit that doing their SMP program is any kind of "easy in" the their medical school.

I'm wondering if I turned down an SMP acceptance - will that hurt my chances of an MD/DO at that school?

No, it won't. Adcoms have better things to do that feel butthurt that you didn't accept a spot in their masters program.

Both are answering the same question, so I cannot imagine it matters.

Change up a few sentences if you really want.
