Hi guys I have a few questions when it comes to applying to DO schools.

I know that applications open up May 1.

I was planning to have most of my App ready by May 1st including my LOR's

Im taking my MCAT on May 27. So hopefully with a good score I would update my scores.

I noticed that the deadline for Apps at alot of schools are Feb 1 for the AACOMAS

I am going to be applying in May 2010 for Fall 2011.

Now between May 1st and Feb 1st there is a summer session and fall semester. I am going to be taking classes.

Does the Feb 1st deadline mean that I can keep updating my app until that date even after my app has been submitted in May?

I was thinking that if i got wait listed the classes I would take in the summer and Fall semester would raise my GPA and if they re-evaluated my app I perhaps could be placed higher?

Does my logic make sense?

you can not update your application through accomas. once it is submitted, it is finalized. however, you can update individual schools on grades/activities/LORs (although some schools will not accept these unless you have already interviewed with them). if you think your grades from summer (and/or fall) will greatly increase your chances of getting into med school, then perhaps you should wait to submit your primary application through accomas until you've received those grades. however, applying earlier is only to your advantage. applying right when applications are able to be sent out is great, but not something you NEED to do. As long as your application is out by July (I would say), then you are still fairly early in the cycle.

can i update the MCAT score after my application has been finalized?

i believe if you put on your accomas (or amcas) application that you plan to take the mcat on a certain future date, you can release the scores from that mcat exam once your scores are released, and the medical schools which you apply will receive the updated score. i am not 100% sure on this though. i believe this is how it works, and medical schools will not review your file until they receive the most recent mcat score that you indicated on your application.

can i update the MCAT score after my application has been finalized?

Yes you can. But make sure you mark on your accomas app that you are planning on taking a second mcat and the date. Then they will be expecting a score from you.

Suppose that I mark that I am taking a second MCAT as an insurance policy, but then after taking the test 1st time see that the scores from my first are good and dont want to take a second MCAT.

Is there a way for me to cancel on the App whether or not they should expect a second MCAT from me even after it has been verified.

I am under the impression that once you get your app verified you cant change anything.
