Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian and I have been accepted to dental school in the US. I assume Canadians will receive some documents from dental school in order to apply for study permit in the US. I am planning to travel overseas for a few months and I might not receive the documents soon enough to apply. Here are my questions:

How does the process work?

Should I fill out the forms and take them to the US embassy?

Is this a lengthy process? Should I stay in Canada while my request is being processed?

Any comment is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Call your dental school and ask them to direct you to a F-1 visa specialist or their international student office, they will guide you thruogh everything you need to do, you basically need an F-1 visa which requires you to show certain things such as intent to return back to canada as well as financial bank statements to show you can support yourself here, etc etc.

At the school I'm going to, they said that Canadians do not need an F-1 Visa. All that is required is an I-20. The lady I was talking to said that if you show a bank statement covering the first year of tuition and fax it to the school, they will initiate the I-20 for you.

But dental schools may differ, so just call and ask.

Same at all Schools, as long as you get the I-20, which the school will get for you once you can show that you have sufficient funds for the first year. The border people will issue your "F1" visa

do you guys know if we can get the I-20 if we obtain a 200k line of credit from a canadian bank? or does your bank account have to state the amount of cash required for one year?
