This is from one of the roadmaps in Destroyer 2008...I drew this out on MS Paint so bear with me lol...anyway, I was just wondering why this particular product is listed:

Shouldn't the major product be this...

...according to Zaitsev's rule? I suck at orgo so don't laugh if this is a horribly stupid question!

The Base (t-butoxide) is really strong, and strongly hindered. Strong hindered bases will remove the most available H and result in less stable (less subst.) alkene. under kinetic control
Strong unhindered bases (like Ethoxide, ch3ch2O-) will remove the H that's gonna give the most stable (more subst.) alkene. thermodyanmic control
