Question about DO letter

Hi all, new to SDN.

I am wanting to apply to DO school this upcoming cycle but I have yet to shadow a DO. I found a DO through doctorsthatDO and I had a meeting with him just to talk about what he does and what it means to be a DO. It seemed like he really liked me and even asked me if I ever wanted to come back and talk to him or go to lunch at any point. I had asked him before to shadow but all he does is physicals on veterans at the local VA and didn't think his patients would be okay with me in the room, which I totally understand. My question is should I still ask him to write me a letter even though I haven't shadowed him? Would this still be beneficial for my apps or would it do more harm than good?
