I'm going to be starting my 2nd year of college in the fall, and I was thinking about doing some research. I read that doing research in a lab at your university could be considered "research" on your applications. Well, I am going to be a UTA in the fall semester for my last Biology TA, and he also offered me some research opportunities he was planning. However, he said that the research would last about a year, and I was under the impression research is usually only a semester or a summer long. I don't mind if it's a year because the topic sounds quite interesting to me, but I'm wondering if this is something medical schools look for. Or if they look for clincial research opportunities at centers or bigger institutes?

If this is what you're interested in, I say go for it.
It's to show commitment and dedication to some kind of project.
Doesn't necessarily have to be clinical, but I say carry out the project for a year, have something to show for it, and express a genuine interest for it in your interviews. Good luck 🙂
