I am gonna apologize in advance in case this is somewhat of a noob question.

Do we need to get a new driver license in order to drive legally if we were to attend dental school in a different state?

Thanks!

No. =) As long as it hasn't expired, you're fine.

Just out of curiosity. Have you lived in one state most/all of your life?

Yeah. That's why I am not familiar with these rules. 😳

Ditto. I was wondering about that myself. 🙂 Are you buying a car when you go out of state or are you driving your car there?

The DMV in the state where I did my ortho residency took my California driver license away and issued me their state driver license…. I didn’t have to take any test. However, when I returned to California, the California DMV made me take a 25 question written test…..and I barely passed it.

I think I might just buy a car once I get there. Save me all that trouble to drive it all the way. 🙂 What about you?

Yeah, I think I'm going to buy a used car there. To be honest, though I've had my license for three years, I just started driving in August. Berkeley wasn't really car-friendly... so ummm, my issue lies more in the difficulty of getting my car there. I should probably mention that I haven't been on the freeway yet without an instructor. 🙁

My mom had to take that test when she moved to Cali. She's not the best driver and I thought it would be a good humbling experience for her. I'm not sure if it was but she hasn't bragged about her l33t driving skillz as of yet. 🙂

I love how non-east coasters, specifically, non-new yorkers, say places aren't car friendly. Everywhere outside of NYC is car-friendly. That, my friend, is a truism. So my advice would be to drive however you like and the cars'll avoid you. At least, that's how I do. 😛

I'm driving my car from NY to CA. It'll be awesome ... after I get it over with and tell my story in 15 secs after a few drinks. I bought my car so I'd want it; plus, as terrible as driving across the country can be, I don't think I'll get that opportunity after I start dental school.

You're giving car advice and being critical of others' car decisions while you've decided to drive in San Francisco?

Heck yeah! That's the gosh darn American way, bro. 😉

Actually, I'll be biking. I'm only driving to my mom's place on weekends and for groceries. Plus, I'll have a parking spot.
