question about eclampsia

FA says for treatment of eclampsia seizures give diazepam p.463... I might be confused but I thought phenobarbital is the DOC for treatment of seizures in pregnancy. Anyone want to school me on this? Thanks

I think MgSO4 is first line for eclampsia? Then BZDs.

thoughts on this...if anyone cares, is that

benzos are used if she is seizing but mag sulfate is used to prevent if she has eclampsia.

I think if she came in sz'ing should would not be ordered mag but I could be wrong. I think I read this somewheres along the road.

yea id go with the mag over the benzos, who knows what sort of toxicities bdzs can do to the infant, maybe a similar effect to how meperidine causes withdrawal in babies

similar Q one of my qbank Qs - it's definitely MgSO4. Benzo's can potentially pose a risk to the infant.

Yeah I agree. I think you meant use MgSO4 if she has PRE-eclampsia to prevent the progression to eclampsia.
