Question about Enlish Pre-req for DO School

Does anyone know if Eng pre-req is waived in some cases? For example NSU-COM has 6 credits of English pre-req. I have Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (India), Master's in CS (from US) and MBA (from US) - I was wondering if I will be able to get a waiver on English pre-reqs because of all this other coursework. Anyone familiar with such a situation?

Would they waive your requirement of biology, physics, or chemistry? No. Why would they just waive your English requirement? Is it that you don't think it's a real class with real rigor? I think English is essential for any doctor. Last thing I need is to read reports that make no sense at all. Stop being lazy. Go take the classes.

I would email the schools you are interested in to see if they would waive it. if not then you would need to take it before you start DO school.

You will need to get your undergrad degree evaluated by WES.

I did get my undergrad transcripts evaluated by WES. Unfortunately, since my degree is in Computer Sc. I don't have any English credits (just one technical writing course - don't know if it will count)

I would expect that any school is going to expect you to go take an English series (101, 102). I know with a grad degree you feel it is redundant; but the requirement is there for a reason.

You can definately ask, but unless you are prepared to limit your applications to those that say yes I'd look at dealing with the missing pre-req.

I was told by an admissions counselor recently that their biggest problem with the school was lack of English skills. He said that they are completely thrilled with the abilities of their students when it comes to science skills but their writing and proofreading skills are abysmal.

Again, the requirement is there for a reason, no matter how silly it may seem. Also, as was stated, this decision is left entirely up to each individual school.

In addition to my bio major I'm also an Italian major; I took two classes that are Italian electives of mine that are actually also cross-listed as English classes. These were conducted in English, and all of the literature I read for them were in English. Were my essays for the classes in Italian? ...maybe, but that was the only thing that was different from me and the other people taking the classes under the English listing. Here are the course listings:

"Dante's Divine Comedy in Translation" RL526 cross listed with EN696
"Love, Sexuality and Gender in the European Tradition" RL 373 cross listed with EN084 - this one actually also counted for my University Literature Core.

Unfortunately, on my transcript, only the RL listings show up.

So how can I deal with this? Would any of these two count for my second English requirement? How could I contact potential med schools to ask them?

The requirement at almost every school I've seen is that you need 1 composition course, so if your course is that way and your Italian course is listed as English/Literature, you should be fine. Contact AACOMAS to double check.

at my undergrad we had an english course series (read literatures and wrote essays) that all undergrad had to take (which satisfy our institute's English rqd) but it's called some seminar not english 101 or anything like that..

just as instructed by AACOMAS --> i wrote at the end of my personal statement that blah blah blah seminar satisfied my English requirement at my institution..

I had no problem with any school BUT NSU! i was accepted there and then got this letter that I am missing Eng rqd --> was told that I had to get the syllabus for those courses (which is difficult since the seminar changes every year and actually changed names since i took it) and they will then CONSIDER (not guarantee) that it'll suffice...

i was fortunate to get into another school (my first choice) that had absolutely no problem with using that seminar to fulfill my rqd

my best advice --> call/email each institute to find out how strict they are
