sorry about duplicate post. the first one does not seem to work.

How much of a disadvantage are you at if you apply to ER residencies not having done any ER elective rotations (besides one at your school), given that the rest of your application is strong (i.e, good board scores and rec letters, some research/pubs)

any comments appreciated.
🙂

Probably not a huge hairy deal. Many of my friends matched at places they didn't rotate at (or rank #1). As long as your app is strong, and you have a good personality, the match shouild work out nicely for you. Good luck! :luck:

I don't think that it is a big deal as far as the Match goes. I only rotated for 1 month at an academic hospital (with a residency). However, I do think you should keep in mind that it is a possibility that you may find yourself less experienced than your co-interns at the BEGINNING of residency simply because they have had more ED time and experienced different ways of doing things. That's just my opinion.

Although I don't think you'd be at a disadvantage necessarily, I do think a second rotation would be better. It can help to make sure EM is right for you, get more/better recs, experience how a different residency program works, allow you to learn more in preparation for internship, etc. Just my 2 cents 😉
