Hello All,

I will be starting my DPT program in May. I just recently got my acceptance so I am trying to get everything straightened out now.
My question is in regards to the financial aid.
Does anybody know (maybe DPT students), if the loans given through FAFSA covers the living expenses? Because I just submitted everything yesterday I do not know how much I will be awarded and am trying to reserve an apartment this week. The Summer semester is 9 credits and I filed my FAFSA as an independent but I am worried the amount awarded will not cover the cost for rent, books, (everything else).

Can anybody give me some advise/insight?

Thanks everyone!

You will get a federal loan for 20,500 and then you can apply for gradplus (through the school's fin aid) and that will cover the cost of attendance listed by your school - 20,500. So if your school's COA is 60,000 then you should receive the 20,500 and then 39,500 from grad plus. Take as much as you need, school's overestimate the COA for your benefit.

Take what you NEED interest rates are high. and you will want to find out when you receive your $$$ you may not have it in time for apt deposits, first rent or books. your FA office should be able to help w/ that info.YES schools to overestimate but don't take that amount...figure out your budget / expenses. congrats on starting DPT

How often is financial aid available? every semester? I don't plan on using it for the first year and if my job situation works out I don't really plan to use it at all but if I have to can I get it at any time in to the program, like any semester of my choice?

I have orientation at the school I'm going to later this month, I guess I could ask this question then too.

I'm kind of in the same situation as you, Ngozi. We have enough saved up for the next three years, but we are looking into loan situations just in case we need them down the line in an emergency. Let me know what you find out! My school's next event is at the end of the month, so I will post what I find out too!
