Hi. I would like to be a periodontist at this point, and I was wondering if I could have my own periodontist office and also work as an associate as a general dentist in another office. I heard there are not many referrals to periodontist, so I was wondering if I could have all the appointments in two-three days in my own office and work in another office two-three days for more income. 🙂 Is this possible?

If you advertise yourself in your own private perio practice as a "specialist in periodontics" then per ADA guidelines that limits the scope of your practice, wherever you're practicing, to that of what a periodontist does. That would, in theory, create an issue with you then also working as an associate GP.

If you have enough patients to keep you busy 2-3 days/week at your own perio office, you should make plenty of money. You don't have to find another associate job to supplement your income. You'll be fine with just 1-2 implants/day or 1-2 osseous surgeries/day. The overhead for perio is very low....no lab fees, fewer assistants, smaller office space etc.
