Most likely your best opportunity will be at the home institution you are doing your intern year at (you could start speaking with the faculty early and let them know of your interest). That being said, I'm not too familiar with the response interns have when applying through the match so I'll let others speak in regards to that. Best of luck!

Overall you sound like a decent applicant. You might have issues finding an outside the match spot (which you would need to avoid taking a year off)
but I would be there are some advanced spots that you could be competitive for.

Hi everyone,

I am a 4th year. I was dead set on a different field and recently made the decision to pursue Anesthesia. I will be completing an internship next year and applying for Anesthesia. My Step 1 was on the lower side, 184(horrible, I know) but my Step 2 is 235. Clinical grades are all high pass and honors. Has anyone applied successfully as an intern with these types of scores? I did a search but I can't find anything related to applying for Anesthesia as an intern. Any advice would be hugely appreciated!!

Sorry to be an investigator but if you took step 1 in 07 (as in class of 09), 184 is failing. If you took it before 07, its passing which means you shouldn't be a 4th year unless you failed/took a year off. Not trying to be a jerk but:

Not giving us the whole story-->Useless "hypothetical" advice -->Helps your "actual" case zero--> ultimately wastes our time trying to help you.

Give us more details and we can discuss further. Otherwise its just wasted time.
