Im a CA resident and am planning to apply to DO schools. I will be applying to Western in California, and wanted to apply to a couple more outside of my state. Is LECOM a good school? I noticed it has two campuses, which one is better?? I would appreciate some help. Thanks!

the one in FL looks like a nice location, they were both easy to deal with on the phone, but I don't really know more than what is on the website

Lecom in PA is a horrible location, this is truly in the middle of nowhere, the whole scene was depressing. On the other hand the one in Florida is a good and bright location, they are starting to have lots of affiliations with local hospitals. The one in Fl is still only one building, the facilites and not to be compared to more established schools. I had interviews at both Lecoms, I would go with the one in Fl, students seemed happy there, sunshine helps.

Our family loves Erie. Life is inexpensive here, the Peninsula is a great place for hiking/biking/swimming, but a city--it ain't! 🙂 It only takes about 20 minutes to get anywhere. There's a dollar-theater and a mall near campus. Hmm. A Starbucks, Borders, and Barns & Nobles... Housing costs are better than most parts of the country. Not all bad, would be my point! 😀

Just my $.02 about the area having grown up in PA (I know little of the school), it is very gray most of the year. Fall and Spring are very long and it inevitably is 40 deg and rainy. Winters are OK(if you don't mind some snow), Summer is fine... but man most of the year the weather was very depressing.

Is that sarcasm? Lake erie is one of the great lakes. Since two campuses are more profitable than one, they opened a second campus in florida. Be on the look out for a third campus in alaska or perhaps a law school. You heard it here first.

so the main campus is in PA and a second is in FL?? Which one is more recommended?

yes, the main campus is in Erie, PA
Bradenton is a branch campus in FL

I've heard only good things about both!

PM sent to you!

Anybody , anybody?

Hey cornellmedic
Do you mind telling us a little more about heir Post-bach. i am thinking of applying if I don't do well on the MCAT. How was it set up, lectures, labs, exams etc.
Thanks

It might be important to note that the Florida campus is strictly PBL. The traditional lecture/discussion is at Erie along with the PBL and ISP.

The post bost is setup as three hour lectures M-F. Often you get out a bit early. Tests are about every 2 weeks, covering the material since the last exam. There is usually one to two subjects per test. There are a couple of lab days, for micro and anatomy, nothing too exciting. Subjects are usually done one or two at a time, moving on when they are finished. Exams are fairly easy. They say that they are similar to what the med students recieve. Some of the lectures are the same as the med school; just at a slightly slower pace with less overall material. Exams are all multiple choice. What else do you want to know?

The Florida faculty, in my opinion, are nicer, and the students there seem happier with the program. Apply to both and then hopefully you can choose for yourself.

Thank you cornellmedic.
I was gonna send you a message, but I don't have AIM, I have MSN messenger.
I apreciate your input. sounds like it is a fairly easy program. Did it help you for med school ? In other words was it beneficial to you?
Can you work while in the program?
Thanks

It definitely helps you get ready for med school. Just don't get cocky because it is easy and think you will fly through med school without effort.

You can work while in the post bacc. So long as it isn't too much and you have decent time management skills.

Hi cornellmedic.
I just downloaded AIM and am trying to send you an IM. It looks like you are offline.
Thanks
