Question about local anesthesia?

A friend had a couple of teeth filled earlier in the week and is still experiencing periods of numbness in his lower jaw/lower lip.

Is this normal? Can there be any residual effects of local anesthetics post-op a week later?

I would appreciate any feedback

Most of the time this usually is temporary, with time it should resolve back to normal, unless there was major damage to the inferior alveolar nerve, which the chances of it being damaged from a simple needle injection is very low.
