So I was riding with an Equine vet yesterday and he recommended that I not go to Murdoch untill my third for fourth try elsewhere with no luck. In fact he said I sould not go to Australia/NZ at all if I could help it. It seems he has a very good friend who was accepted and went to Murdoch only to find out after the first year that they would not admit her to the vet program itself. He could not remember exactly but it had something to do with crazy internal requirements; he thought there was a min GPA in intial classes and then really tough exams as well. His friend was there for one year, paid all that money and then basically was denied the vet program. His recomendation was Royal Veterinary College in London, then the scottish schools for international (He's a RVC grad). Can anyone comment about this? Any Murdoch sutdents (or Massey or Sydney for that matter) to clarify? Thanks!

Hmmmm, I'm slated to begin at Murdoch next July. Now you have me thinking second thoughts. I too am curious to know if this is something I should be concerned about. I will be making a lot of sacrifices to go there and will be really upset if, after a year, they tell me to go home. Murdoch seems pretty eager to get international students so I really doubt that they'd treat you that way, but I would feel a whole lot better if some current international Murdoch students could back me up on this.

I applied recently for next July so I feel the same way... The really scarry part is He said the school did just that.... "sucked her in" That they were very friendly and helpful and they once you were there.... That's why I'm asking for current students to reply becuase maybe this woman failed her first year or something?

I know at massey if you have the pre-reqs and they let you in for second semester, you are *in* untill you fail enough for them to boot you. (you fail a class in the vet program, you get re-examined on it at... the end of summer I think.. and if you fail that you have to take the class again- not sure at what point they kick you out)

But if you come for preselection semester here and f-up, you don't get into the program- doesn't mean you can't try again, just that you aren't in that year. But they don't kick you out of the school, or anything. I do know that a lot of people give up at that point, or go home to try again later.

It's possible that the person in the story came in pre-selection.

I am actually leaving Tuesday to attend Murdoch and I am not the least bit scared of dropping out. There are two girls on here who are Murdoch vet students and I believe in there 2nd year. And I know another girl who was given an abscence of leave to have a child and she was allowed to resume school. Foreign schools are a lot different then US schools. They dont hold your hand and you can get kicked out. I know someone who went to Davis and failed his first year and was allowed to repeat that year again. They are not going to let you do that at a foreign school. I work with many foreign grads and they have nothing but great things to say about Murdoch and other doctors I have talked to also; including the associate dean at Davis (who graduated from Queensland). So I mean if you know there is a possibility of you failing you will work your butt off and do good. I plan on doing well (I want to do a residency after vet school).

I will try to look for the girl on here who is a Murdoch student. She has been very helpful to me and my friend. Good luck in all you guys do and whatever decision you make. Just make sure its the decision that you want and not someone else wants.
