few things...can anyone purchase these or do you have to have proof you are a medical student etc??? Was going to help a friend struggling financially by buying a few for him if they are worthwhile

Also, can you see the questions you got wrong with explanations on why you got them wrong? Someone told me they only tell you your score but not which questions you got wrong...which makes me skeptical of dropping the $ to buy it if I can't get explanations or know what I missed.

anyone can "buy" them you just have to go to nbme website and create an account. You should probably ask your friend to create the account since your friend is the one who needs to use it. Then when it comes time to "pay" you can just put your cc info into it.
there are various options for the exams. you can see it on their website when you go to select and purchase an exam.

hope that helps!

but do any of these options allow you to access your answers and see which questions you got wrong/why after?

yes! there are a select few that allow you to see oNLY the questions you get wrong. they dont give you an explanation as to why they are wrong and why another is right. you basically get to see the question again with you answer choice marked "wrong"
Of course you have to pay extra for those exams.

all other information you can get from the NBME website. It will answer all your questions!

i'm confused why it is so secretive what you got right or not. Do they recycle these questions on the real thing or something?

i mean, if they are worried that publishing answers will lead to more bootlegging or something, well, what's to stop someone from just snapping pics with a cell phone under the current format (which I'm sure has been done)
