So now that I'm getting my rank list in order a question came up. In the NRMP's statistics about matching last year...they have a section where they show how people that ranked contiguous anesthesia ranks fared in the match. The odds tip in your favor at about 7 ranks and hit over 90% after 10 contiguous anesthesia ranks.

However, I am ranking advanced and categoricals, and was wondering if they counted towards that "magic number?" For example I have 7 interviews which puts me at decent odds of matching...but with all the advanced and categoricals its more like 12 or 13. Sorry about the paranoia but this is a field I feel strongly about and dont wanna miss out on. Any input appreciated.

a. advanced and categorical would be counted as contiguous ranks
b. no amount of analyzing outcomes in the match will improve your odds. go have a beer.

Sorry for redundancy, but so if you interview at one program that has both advanced and categorical positions, it counts as two contiguous ranks?
