Hey guys..

I am reapplying this year...I just got a quick question about writing a personal statement...

I already have my personal statement for the last cycle but can I use it with some editing for this year? Do they compare new application with old one? I think since there are so many applicantions they wouldn't bother to look over the last application....

Do I have to write a brand new statement?

Thanks in advance..

I wouldn't completely revamp it, but I would modify it such that the overall meaning is the same. Your reasons for choosing dentistry probably have not changed any, so I would add what you have been doing this past year to improve your application and what makes you a more competitive applicant for this year's cycle. I don't know if they compare your previous PS with your new one...my impression was that they toss out your old application since you have to create a completely new one.

i would absolutely rewrite it! in the last you have faced new adversities and are striving to overcome them and that should be in your ps. i really think the ps is the most underrated part of the app. our dean for 1, reads every single ps of every applicant and has been known to invite somebody for an interview straight off of their ps. it can be a game changer.

I would also recommend rewriting it. Although your reasons for pursuing dentistry may remain mostly the same you have not. Hopefully you took the year to improve yourself as a candidate and it would be a good idea to integrate that into your PS.
