It means that the ACGME has identified flaws in the program that must be corrected within an allotted time frame, or the program loses its accreditation. While on probation, the program can continue to accept and train residents, but if the program loses its accreditation, the residents still in training will have to find somewhere else to finish their residency, or they're S.O.L.
