Hi all,

quick question--if you apply to med schools, say for the fall of 2006, and don't get in, is there still time to apply to post bacc programs for that fall of 2006? Just wanted to cover all bases and be prepared, since I'm not too familiar on the general deadline for post bacc programs! Thanks all--

Yes, but conditionally. For fall '06, you'll send your AMCAS in this summer or early fall. Then secondaries, then interviews in late fall through spring. There's a decent possibility, particularly if you're already considering a post-bacc, that you might be waiting to hear from medical school as late as May or June.

At the same time, your best chances with a competitive post-bacc (RF, Gtown, BU, Drexel, etc) come with applications sent in February or early March. Since they're usually separate programs from any associated medical school, you can (and have to) apply separately.

So if you apply to the '06 cycle, there's a chance you might be applying blindly to post-bacc programs not knowing if you'll be subsequently admitted to med school. But you'll probably have a good idea about your chances at that point. It just costs $$$ to do both at the same time--and I'd check first to see if any post-bacc programs don't allow simultaneous applications with their affiliated med schools.
