This is my first time using SDN and I would like to introduce myself.

I was Biomedical Engineering student that recently switched to Computer Science. I have decided after a long 1 year process that Biomedical Engineering is not my passion and wanted to learn a set of more primary skills such as being able to write code.

I know that on the AACOMAS application it asks you to put your most recent grades in the specific areas of study: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.

My question is I took Physics for Engineers Calculus Based: and received C+s in both, can I take the algebra based physics that the typical Pre-Med students take and use those scores for the GPA calculation on the application?

Thank You,

Raphaello

No they won't be able to replace it because they are not the same class and cover different subjects. I would retake the calc based ones again and do better. At my university they weren't really all that different in terms of difficulty (I took calc based). The trig based one wasn't that much "easier" they just had a different focus

Thank You for your reply, unfortunately my university does not allow classes with grades C or better to be retaken.

If I were to take the trig based ones could, would it show up as an average when calculating my science GPA?

find another university or community college and take them there. Probably be cheaper and small class sizes means better grades (atleast these were what appealed to me).

yes, but honestly just retaking the calc based ones would make a bigger difference in your gpa than taking the trig based. This is because DO allows for replacement the C+ wouldn't be factored into your sgpa just whatever your new grade is. If you take the trig based classes it'll factor in both the C+'s and the trig based grades

Thank you both for your advice DetectiveAlonzo and D02015CA.

My course of action, should be then to take Calculus Based Physics at Community College?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a very similar question. At my undergrad, we took physics during sophomore year, and it had a 200 level prefix. However, there was no pre-req course required to take before it. It was just College Physics 1 and 2, but with 200 level prefixes. Would retaking physics with a 100 level prefix count for grade replacement? @DetectiveAlonzo @DO2015CA

is it from the same university? Then no. They have to literally be the same class. As in description in topics covered and the units. I don't see a university having 2 different classes for the same identical class. I didn't try and replace any classes but the way I read it was that it has to be the same class, not a similar class.

If it is from another university then it has to be an equal or greater amount of units. For instance, a o-chem course like chem 100 (organic chem) at one uni will be replaced with Chem 50 if Chem 50 is O-chem as well and has the same or more units are chem 100. Hopefully that makes sense.

No, I would take it at a different university. At most universities, physics is a 100 level course (as in available to take freshman year if you want). Mine was a 200 level (as in I had to wait until second year to take it). However, the material taught would be the same at either school.

So you think it would be acceptable to take a 100 level physics course worth 3 credits to replace my previous 200 level physics course worth 3 credits (if both taught introductory algebra based physics)? The chem 50 confused me, I've never heard of a 50 level course haha.

I don't get the 100-level or 200-level thingy but if they have similar names and similar descriptions and similar or greater amount of units then it'll probably be replaced. that is all up to aacomas.

Numbers are of no importance when doing retakes at different school. All that matters are the similar course names and description. For example, biochem may be 4oo level at school A but is a level 300 at school B. They are still the same classes meant for the same audience (not a nursing biochem class or whatever to replace chem major biochem). Another example is If you replace your genetics course, you gotta take verify that your retake at the new school is equivalent (meaning their genetics is for bio majors as opposed to taking a "genetics for non science majors).

contacted ACCOMAS. this was an issue for me as well. it is possible to replace university physics with college physics. what they look for is equal or more credit hours and that the course description matches. i have it in writing from a verifier @ ACCOMAS. your best bet is to email what your intend it and see if its ok with them.
