Hi, my GPA is about a 3.15 so I am taking the year to retake classes I got Cs in and maybe take a few more. I graduated from UCSD and have moved to LA now so I'm taking classes through UCLA extension and concurrent enrollment. However, these classes are similar if not exactly same subject, but have different names. For example, I took Bacteriology at UCSD got a C and am taking Microbio now at UCLA... they didnt have microbio lecture at ucsd i dont think/... is it worth retaking?

I also took system neurobiology at UCSD... but now i am taking neurophysiology through UCLA extension... we use the same book, but the name of the class is different.

How do I find out if these classes will replace the old grade for the DO application?

I'm not really sure about your situation so the only advice I can give you is to contact AACOMAS for a definite answer.

In my experience, AACOMAS is fairly lenient with their acceptance of your designation of a "repeat" class. So if you took the class to make up for the grade, and it was basically the same class, but with a different title, just mark it as such on your application and they'll probably accept it. If not, be prepared to send them the official course description, etc., but you most likely won't need to.

As Punk said, you could always contact them to be sure beforehand.

I have a similar question...I have to retake cell biology, but I'm taking the class at a cc where the class is called "molecular/cell biology" would this be ok with aacomas??

do you think it's ok to use online courses as repeat courses?

I don't think it matters as long as it doesn't show on your transcript. I was stressed about that when I was taking an online GE at my school, luckily it doesn't show that the class was taken online.

I had the same situation at differant colleges. I listed the courses as repeats with a slightly differant name and AACOMAS didn't blink a eye. AACOMAS took my word for it and never questioned the entry. Of course, my entries were truthful. So, you should have no problem. Good luck raising your GPA.

One note on retaking a course, if you're going to retake it you'd better ace the retake, I was at an interview recently and a student retook a course he got a c in and he got a B in the retake and one of the interviewers grilled him on why he wasted his time because a B was not a marked improvement over a C. At one point in time he was specifically asked if he actually mastered the content with a C in the course one time and a B in it the second time.

I took several retakes and got A's in them and it was fine... so just beware that some schools will give you a tough time on doing a retake unless you literally ace it!

Good point.
