Hi,
Can anyone offer some insight as to whether I can ask for reimbursement for Job interview trips? I know many places reimburse the cost if you accept the job, but I'm guessing if you interview and turn down the offer, there isn't any reimbursement right? I was talking to my friend in Radiology about this, and it seems like the "policies" are a little different in that everyone is reimbursed for the travel expenses.

It's all group dependent. Some will pay for flights and roll out the red carpet for you. Some won't pay a dime. If you are concerned, ask them about it before the trip. If you really like the group, don't let interview costs get in the way.

My group paid for hotel and took me out to a nice dinner, but it was up to me to get there. These can all be written off your own taxes if your group does not reimburse you.

The practice I joined paid for everything and said up front that they were going to (academic place). I have a friend that was looking in the Chicago area and most of the groups he talked with told him upfront that they would not cover travel expenses but he really wanted to move back home so he didn't care.

Like Gas said, if it is a group or city that you want to be in don't let that deter you. Did you pick your residency program based on the ones that paid for everything versus the ones that didn't?

So are there anesthesia residences that pay for travel during interview season? If so, do tell which ones. Look ahead a year or so.
