Question about research!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
While it may not be a rigid requirement for dental school admission, it certainly will not hurt you. If you have time and an opportunity is available, then definitely get involved, as it can be a great experience. I became involved in Neuro research after taking a class junior year......did it for credit spring semester of junior year, then over the summer for pay....and all senior year for credits. We published a primary paper, and were allowed to present in front of the entire school of science. It was fun.

While it's not required, if you want to get into schools like UCSF, who are HEAVILY research oriented, yes, you more or less have to.

As far as Biochem, every school recommends taking it, and a good number do require it. Check the schools websites or the ADEA guide to dental schools for more info on the schools you want to apply to.

Biochem is required at some schools. It was to get into VCU. You will have to check individually and no... if you have the GPA, plenty of people haven't done research and have still gotten it. GPA is paramount but of course while research helps it isn't essential for most applicants.

i thought all students had to research in high school and 4 yrs of college to have the slightest chance....

I don't know why in the world you thought that.

Do i have to do any research?????????????
Also, Do i have to take biochemistry?

Research? Don't get medical school confused with dental school. Dental schools are mostly interested in how many hours you wasted watching another dentist over a prolong time.

Biochem? Might not be an easy A, but it will be very beneficial academically.

I got a pretty good research spot on my campus and I think it will end up helping me out a lot in the application process. It gives you a chance to get to know a prof really well, get a letter of rec, and can improve your manual dexterity. I've heard it can be a hot topic during the interviews as well. If you have the shot I'd say...do it 👍
